about

The endless journey of Mårble, aka Siberia-born and Saint Petersburg-based Anton Glebov, takes a pit stop on Klammklang, with his seventh (and the darkest yet) full-length. 'Criminal Russia' is a patchwork travelogue arranged by blurred dubs, quasi-tropicalia, animistic jazz and quirky fourth worldtronica, which compose a sonorous body equally suitable for tribal dances in one's own room as for the group meditation on the dancefloor. A surrealistic path through the urban jungle of a replicated Saint Petersburg, one which is marked with unexpected meetings, strange attractions and eerie occurrences. These dynamic reaches an apex in 'Criminal Russia' with the participation of Slavic Ipatov in sax&rhythm bomb 'Coco Dub' and Minereed’s synth waves on 'Tsarstvo' and 'Jablochki'.

Anton’s peek into the underside of modern human myth is that of the reflector, which conversely acts as a false looking glass, one that constantly distorts the visible (and hearable) image. Its projections appear ambiguously spectacular and horrendous, weird or stupendous, yet they still display the fragility and complexity of verbal language anticipating a musical one. The highlighting of such contradictions, are joyfully transformed into an act of anomalous beauty, one driven not with fear and wish to possess, but only with the interest to caress.
